The Oasis subsector population in 1119 was 73 billion, of which 70 billion
lived on the Darmine ethnic world of Irap (2630). Barnet (3130) was the
subsector capitol and the average TL was 12, though those with Imperial Naval
bases tended towards TL-13-15.
The Duchy of Oasis was formed in the early 1120's, by Duchess Victoria
Olesnos of Ereas (2524), by force of personality and her Imperial nobility. She
sustained a 40 system polity. Nominally she leaned towards Lucan's faction, but
most historians suspect that was to avoid Black War fleet strikes. What she
could not predict was the swiftness of the onset of Hard Times. She also had to
deal with the doomed worlds of Clavert (2222) and Dust (2224) in
Wolf subsector during her reign, as well as pinprick Black
War strikes from Dulinor's faction. Her administration of nobles and civil
servants kept her polity in Outland status throughout the period. During the
period, as isolation set in around them in the wilds. The majority of the
worlds with Darmine ethnicity renamed themselves.
The Duchy was swept up with the flood of Virus, refugees and its effects.
Duchess Victoria was killed by it, forcing her teenage daughter to the throne.
Fortunately, Victoria had wisely chosen her education and her counselors. And
the Duchy survived. Re-expansion began in a renaissance in 1184, recontacting
what would be called the "Crown colonies", allied protected worlds, but
self-autonomous systems whose problems with the Duchy today are economical and
technological not militarily. The Final War sobers even these grandsons and
daughters.
The Duchy of Oasis is ruled today by the Granddaughter of founder Duchess
Victoria, Her Grace, Duchess Elisabeth Olesnos. Of the forty worlds the polity
once held together, only seven core worlds adhere to all of the former Imperial
ways: Cossor (2424) in Wolf subsector, Olesnos (2524), Reina (2525), Shiganisa*
(2725), Shytek-Oberon, Dothama (2928), and Dethis (2930). Five worlds are
administered systems/resource worlds (Cm's): Dust/Wolf (2224), Ghagos (2925),
Kuire (3024), Alakar(3025), and Charon (3030). The 3 Crown Colonies of Wolf
subsector are: Bacelbron (2223), Lonely (2324), and Provalan (2325). The five
Crown colonies of Oasis subsector are Isaji (3128), Romany (3129), Oasis (3130),
Sidna (3229), and Donsam (3230).
New Era census population is 81 billion, an increase despite die-offs on seven
worlds in the subsector and evacuations from the "administered territories". The
highest population remains Irap with 80 billion. Population increases occurred
on Irap, Usyupkut, Shytek-Oberon, and Dethis. The best starport (A-class) is at
Shytek-Oberon, Romany, and the Droyne world Usyukut (2730). The best TL (12) is
at Shytek Oberon.
Planets of Note:
Usyupkut (2730): A droyne Imperial world in pre-war days and home to an
Ancients site. In TNE, they have pursued their own course, running their
A-class starshipyard and selling several new vessels per annum (100-200 dtns).
Relations between the Duchy and the Droyne are few, save the ship sales, and the
Droyne select the buyers! It has friendlier relations with Irap and the
AI-robot state of Avalon there. The Droyne population swelled during 1124-1130
from refugees, and hence have a large Space fleet of Droyne-made and Imperial
relic ships. Some 150,000 serve in this space force, with 50 large ships and 150
smaller vessels. Most of which are armed merchant craft. Those vessels not
deemed SDB's, are at least J-2 in ability. The Duchy is wary of this sizeable
fleet so close to their borders, but the Droyne have shown no antagonism as yet.
Irap (2630): The arcologies of Irap are mostly submerged in this planet's
shallow world ocean, several hundred which pierce the surface. When Virus
arrived, the government frantically found their ships and orbital habitats
crashing into the sea. They forced themselves to shut down all available large
life support power and data systems. When they threw the switches back on a week
later, they found themselves with an unexpected benefactor, an AI that had
inhabited one of the larger arcologies. It turned out to be their defense
against Virus throughout the second Long Night. The AI turned aside Vampires
seeking the world's systems for infection. The AI called its domain
Avalon, and summoned all infected robots to that location. Then it shut
down in 1140, and remained dormant, its doors sealed. Avalon "re-awakened"
recently with the advent of the Droyne's first contact mission from Usyupkut in
1192, and now conducts its business as a human state would, sending forth its
robots on errands the Darmine humans can only guess at. The Duchy has recently
been in contact with Irap, and rebuilt its B-class orbital starport and repaired
several downports as well. TL-11 goods are now flowing out of Irap and into the
Duchy at a steadily increasing rate, while the Darmine here get their
"space-legs" back.
