The Kaas subsector population in 1119 was 11.3 billion. New Era census
population is 5 billion, a reduction of roughly 60%. Mhindrap (0324), Resp
(0326), Newhaw (0625), Kern (0528), and Caris (0527) all show some population
increase since the Collapse. The highest population is at Mhindrap (2 billion).
The best starport (A-class) is at Jehaan (0422), which shares the best TL (11)
with Feron (0724).
The Kaas subsector is balkanized by two PE's and an assortment of independent
worlds. The largest in the rimward portion of the subsector, The Star Traders
Compact consists of Caris (0527), Kern (0528),
Giovanni (0627), Kaas (0628), Rodriguez (0729), &
Dweomer (0827). This loose PE is a mutual trade polity (in reality, a
Nexus state with the Star Guild at Giovanni profitting heavily with the only
nearby B-class port & TL-10 yards).
The second PE, to coreward, is an ethnic-cultural, mutual defense pact. The
Darmine Federation is a holdover of the cultural peoples of the sector
suppressed during the 1st and 2nd Imperium. They are related to the folk of
Irap/Oasis subsector. During the war, they were for Dulinor's Federalist
reforms and now, with his legacy gone, they have reinstituted their own path to
the future. This PE consists of Jehaan (0422), Bormor (0522),
Thaalisa (0524), Atte Barke (0525), and Lodri-Hap (0622).
They have opened diplomatic relations with their kin on Mhindrap, who
have also chartered their own course to the stars. However the high population
world's mystic autocrats (Techno-priests) have yet to decide on formally
joining their bretheren.
Feron (0724): Chief among the friendlier independents, the Imperial navy
descendants on Feron, who have maintained their Naval base through the Collapse
as well as the B-class starport and yards at TL-11. They share part of the
burden of the Darmine Federation's mutual defense, but are not of Darmine
extraction, and remain aloof ethnically and politically.
Resp (0326): Boasting TL-A through the long night and having rebuilt
their port to C-class, the Darmine humans here are also at odds with the Star
Traders Compact's mainworld of Giovanni as an up and coming rival. Resp's saved
their neighboring kin off of Kelde before its final collapse, and
shuttled many to Ramrod/Mhindrap over the years. Due to the nature of
their conflict with the STC, and the dangers of the New Era itself, Resp
practices mandatory military service for citizenship between ages 17 and 50 of
one term. More than half of the planet's citizenry work at and around the
starport. Resp boasts six relic heavily armed modified freighters, kept lovingly
maintained, two of which are over 1000dtns. They enjoy Favored Trade status
with Ramrod/Mhindrap and Darmine Federated worlds.
