Subsector Notes

CT/MT:

Akkunat (2907): Former agricultural world. Massive volcanic explosion in 1095 triggered release of sulfur and nitric-oxide compounds. Imported crops died and native flora became inconsumable. The agricorp shutdown operations and moved away. Exodus ensued. Although contaminant levels in air and water can be safely filtered out, fear of further volcanic activity and the world's proximity to hostile states has prevented renewed operations.

Goobsfol (2909): The taint in the atmosphere is the result of silicate dust. Filter masks are sufficient enough to handle it.

Goobsfol is a mining world. It's primary exports are: Ytterbium, Terbium, Neodymium and other metals.

Despite the lack of any government, or any written legal code, Goobsfol is a surprisingly civilized world. When there is a dispute, typically over a mining claim, the Scout Service is called in to settle it. Otherwise, the citizens police themselves. The population listed is for permanent settlers. It is not uncommon for three times that number to be present in the system, whether searching for new claims on the planet or carving up one the system's many asteroids.

Kalanuu (3111): Mining world. Primary export products: Bauxite, Limestone, Quartz, Dolomite, Gypsum, and Barium and Magnesium compounds.

This world's oceans have shrunk by 35% over the millennia due to stellar activity. As the seas retreated, they surrendered myriad types of minerals and salts of economic value.

Naalkin (2911): Founded as an agricultural enterprise. Its native flora and fauna are harvested for export.

The world was sold to the Zirunkariish Bureau by Makhidkarun as payment for an outstanding debt. Rather than administrate directly, a governor was appointed to oversee operations. The position carries no real power. All decisions are made by back at corporate headquarters based on the governor's reports.

Sardia (3208): [Excerpted from The Flaming Eye]
Deemed to be of little value by the First Imperium, Sardia was bypassed for settlement until the Third Imperium when a Naval base was constructed around the system's gas giants.

The world's primary exports are metals and ores mined from its crust.

While Sardia's law level is moderate, offworlders are subject to harsher penalties than the natives should they break the law. Punishments tend to be physically severe, ranging from whipping to death.

Shishaldin (3008): The atmospheric taint is the result of heavy metal laced dust. Respirators with filter masks are required.

Mining world. Primary export products: molybdenum, cadmium, zinc, palladium and other metals.

Several lords dominate the planet. Each has several vassals who swear their allegiance based on economic prosperity. One might expect espionage or open warfare to be commonplace, but it is rare. The last outbreak of global violence was in 853, but once a scout base was established in 913, there have only been minor skirmishes. The scout base commander acts as arbitrator during disputes. The ISS conducts cold, desert training exercises here.

Theton (3107): [Excerpted from The Flaming Eye]
When lanthanum was discovered here during the First Imperium, many individuals were willing to brave the corrosive, pressure cooker atmosphere with hopes of striking it rich. In -100, Arga (3106) took over the world and put convicted criminals to work on the surface.

With Arga's permission, the Imperial Navy established a base here in 625. Twenty years later, Theton became the subsector capital.

Most of the population lives in orbital cities, which see a large amount of traffic due to the lack of gas giants in the system. Fuel is skimmed from the upper reaches of Theton's atmosphere in the form of ammonia, which is then refined into hydrogen. However the concentration of ammonia is quite low and it takes some time to collect fuel. Therefore, the price of fuel is five to ten times the normal amount.

The Theton Subsector has an estimated population in 1202 of approximately 912.4 million, a decline of 95% from its Pre-Collapse population. Its highest population is 657 million at Vutsarrgh, and its highest tech level is 6 at Daztsoun, Spinport, Zupilak and Veppim. The Theton Subsector had an estimated population in 1117 of approximately 20.07 billion. Its highest population was 9.04 billion at Arga, and its highest tech level was 15 at Raltaedz.

On the spinward edge of Lishun sector, Theton was hit relatively hard by Virus and the Collapse. This subsector remains adrift in the Wilds with little or no contact with any worlds outside its boundaries.
