In 1143, Strend (0505) was hit with what later became known as the
"Plague of Strend." Initially it was thought that Virus had snuck through the
Quarantine somehow and poisoned the food processors. It was later discovered
that the Chief Nutritionist in the Ministry of Sustenance concocted an extremely
lethal virus and introduced it into the mandatory breakfast regiment. Being a
high-tech totalitarian society, though a somewhat lenient one (only Law
Level 11), it was quite easy to infect the entire population. The virus attacked
the gastrointestinal tract and immediately broke it down, leading to
uncontrollable bleeding. Victims died in a matter of hours. Fortunately, 1 in
40 proved immune to the virus. The Chief Nutritionist, who committed suicide via
lethal injection, left behind extensive notes, enabling a vaccine to be easily
created. Although the virus had run its course and no further cases were ever
reported, mandatory vaccines were in effect for all visitors up until 1183.

Halka. Although the setting is 1111, there is nothing preventing it from
being run in MT or TNE.
